The fastest, most comfortable, versatile and easy to way to carry stuff on a motorcycle, scooter or bicycle. Triangular in cross-section, messenger bags wrap around your back and stay in position when riding. The original ‘Courier’ size holds a small briefcase, a few magazines and some files…plus a tablet and notebook computer with room to spare. It is the most versatile and best selling size.
All are constructed of 1000D PU-backed Cordura nylon, with a seamless bottom for maximum strength and durability. All also feature a bright yellow reinforced PVC waterproof inner lining. Also inside is a usefully-sized organizer pocket (two on the Parcel size) and ‘clip-on’ key loop.
After long use they’ll develop an ‘experienced’ patina that reflects your individual patterns of use and wear. The 2" military-spec nylon shoulder strap adjusts quickly and easily via a cam lock buckle for a secure, comfortable fit. For heavy-load all-day comfort, there is an oversize, removable, load-spreading shoulder pad with a grippy Ultrasude surface (it’s optional for the Letter size).
The flap closes with a wide strip of hook and loop as well as adjustable side-release buckles to accommodate oversized loads. There's also a useful carrying handle on the top center. Visibility is assured with a wide strip of 3M Scotchlite™ reflective running across the flap.
These bags are as simple to put on as a guitar, and easier to learn. Red, black, grey, hi-viz lime yellow, or blue (or limited edition pink in letter, dispatch, and courier sizes only).

- For about 20 years I had one of these Parcel bags, carried tons of stuff all over, and it handled everything without the slightest seam separation, slippage, stretching, never any problem (except when I went down with some brake disks in it which made a little cut when the bag hit the ground, but that was easily and permanently fixed with really good tape from the inside). The material with the yellow lining is waterproof (you just can't totally seal the bag - it's a messenger bag for cryin' out loud) Plus it was easy to clean, just soap it up and hose it off, let it dry in the sun, and it looked real fine. It will probably last forever, but I won't know since it got stolen. So I got a new one which looks every bit as good as the old one. This one will probably last longer than I will. - I bought the big one in 2009 because I am a big boy (6'4" 265). Hate to be limited. The bag has lived up to it's reputation, but even better, I have used it many times as a airline carry-on. It's somewhat triangular shape fits in the overhead bin like it was made for the job. It carries through the airport with ease. And I just loved the conversations from the "knowing' when they say "Hey, that's a Stich isn't it? What bike you ride?". I am buying a couple more! (Posted on 2/22/10)

I've had a Courier bag since about '97, and going back to college after 15 years away has me carrying more than I did in the Army at times. I would stuff the Courier so full that the quick-release straps would barely latch. Well, not anymore. At 5'10" and 175 lbs. I consider myself about average size; this bag fits well and lets me pack my books and my cold weather gear with no problem. You could take that overstuffed Courier, put it inside the Parcel bag and still fit your lunch, or just carry a CASE of your favorite cold beverage in BOTTLES! Still way more comfortable than a backpack. 22 miles to and from work, another 60 miles round trip to school, with about 30-40 pounds of stuff with no discomfort. Maybe not water proof, but I've never had anything get wet after 8 hours in precipitation. If you can never carry enough, this is the bag for you.

Super bag. I use it primarily to commute by bicycle. I am 6'2", 190lbs and agree that it IS big, sometimes too big for my use, but that is my problem ;) It has survived a couple of adventures over the handlebars and padded my fall with minimal damage due to its tough Cordura material. The huge reflective stripe works well on the moto, but is a bit too high to be very visible on the bicycle. Strap pad is wide and comfortable but it does slide around a bit as the previous reviewer mentioned. The only complaint I have with the bag is that the double seam/stitch which attaches the top flap, and sometimes the buckle too, tend to dig into my side causing some discomfort. This happens on the moto through my textile jacket, and most noticeably on the bicycle because there is nearly direct contact with just a thin shirt between the buckle and my torso.
Overall I like the bag and have been pretty happy with it, but am considering getting another, more comfortable, bag for bicycle usage. (Posted on 8/6/09)

I'm a large rider (6'4", 280) and this is a good size for me. As the copy says, it wraps around your back comfortably. With the optional stabilizer strap - which I strongly recommend - I don't notice it much while riding. I think that it's possible to load this down with more weight than you should carry on your back, so some restraint is advisable. Mine was in putrescent hi-viz lime yellow, truly repugnant, but at least they can seem me while they are revolted. My unit included two interior pockets. I'd suggest getting the interior organizer, or some of the Aerostich packing bags if you want to carry a lot of miscellaneous stuff rather than a few larger things.
The shoulder strap is wide, and the pad is excellent, although it won't stay in one place on my unit. The carrying handle is useful for carrying the bag, but it seems a little wimpy for carrying it if it's full of stuff.

Overall, recommended. This can carry enough stuff for a multi-day trip, although not waterproof. Just don't overweight it with anything you would not want on your back in an accident. Dirty laundry, ideal; concrete blocks, not so good. I'm happy with mine. (Posted on 7/19/08)

These are the Original Modern Messenger Bags
The first ‘Courier’ size Aerostich messenger bag was introduced in 1985. This was a few years before other messenger bag companies like Timbuk2, Chrome (and others) even existed. Other outdoor fashion companies such as Patagonia and North Face also introduced their messenger bags many years later.
In 1985 only two similar bags were available. Both were produced in small numbers for professional bicycle messengers only. (Everyone else who carried things by bicycle or motorcycle wore small back packs.) We patterned the first Aerostich Courier bag closely after the ‘proven-by-messengers’ bag.
Both of the early commercial-use messenger bags were made of cotton canvas, and they had no hook-and-loop (Velcro) on their lids, no reflective material anywhere, no strap-length cam adjusters and no side-release flap buckles for oversize loads. Aerostich was the first to incorporate these features and also to apply modern materials like Cordura nylon, hook-and-loop, 3M reflectives, plastic buckles and strap adjusters to this style bag.
Aerostich messenger bags still remain more strongly made than common bags sold at bicycle shops, outdoor stores and college bookstores. Because they are made for commercial users they are tougher, so they last a lot longer.
The construction details are different, too. An example of this is how the top flap is constructed. Common messenger bags connect the inner flap's fabric to the outer fabric with an inexpensive 'binding' stitched around the outside edges of the flap. This is fast and easy, but not especially durable. Every Aerostich messenger bag flap is first sewn inside-out, then turned right side-out and edge-stitched the same way a dress shirt collar is made. This looks 'right' and lasts much longer.
Another example is the Aerostich oversize shoulder pad. It is oversized to better spread your load better, and is highly detailed and carefully constructed of several materials, too. If you carry a messenger bag every day, you’ll want this pad.
Aerostich messenger bags are also all made in Duluth Minnesota. There really is a difference…
A Mr. Subjective History on Aerostich Messenger Bags
Aerostich messenger bags are one of my favorite Aerostich products. They differ substantially from all of the other kinds of similar bags you’ve seen elsewhere. Essentially, these are a lot heavier-duty.
The primary reason we like messenger bags so much because they are so easy to use for urban and utility motorcycle riding. They go on-and-off quick and are versatile. One of these bags hangs empty, near my riding gear, so I can grab it whenever the destination involves picking up something, or whenever I need to carry something fast without using bungees. Messenger bags are a key technology for every day motorcycling…An invaluable tool.
These bags are the first ever to incorporate advanced, modern materials: Cordura Nylon, nylon webbing, Fastex quick-release buckles and strap adjusters, Velcro and 3M Scotchlight reflective. The only other bags of this type when these were created used basic canvas, and were carried mostly by the document couriers in larger cities.
The official introduction of the first Aerostich messenger bag happened nearly thirty years ago at one of the old Motorcycle Dealernews trade shows. I remember standing at the end of a table in a small private conference room at one of the hotels, giving an informal presentation to Motorcyclist Magazine’s then Editor-in-Chief Mitch Boehm and several other staff editors. “The daypack is dead!” I begun, trying to sound as declarative as possible. “The era of the messenger bag is beginning.” A colorful selection of the Aerostich messenger bags spread across the table. As some editors started examining them I explained why this nearly unknown style of bag was so great for motorcyclists. And why I believed they’d rule in the future. And why these were made exactly the way they were. It felt as though we were pioneering something entirely new.
A few years later other messenger bag companies started up and their far less heavy-duty versions of this type of bag quickly became a college bookstore commodity. Today hundreds of other messenger bag variations are available from dozens of companies…but the Aerostich messenger bags (by size: 'letter', 'dispatch', 'courier', and 'parcel') are the original.
About ten years ago we created a new range of wax cotton messenger bags in several colors, added the color pink to the Cordura line and developed an optional internal organizer pocket system for all of the three larger-sized bags.
