Heated Grip Kit #1400

A flexible, adhesive, wrap-around heating element with printed-circuit-type elements that fit between the handlebar and grip, keeping your digits from turning into frozen turkey feet of limited utility during cold weather rides. We all remember what that phenomenon feels like, right? Comes with two elements, wiring, resistor, and an on/off, hi/lo switch. Super, almost unbelievably effective, and a great comfort as well as a safety enhancer. For 12V systems. Draws: low (2 amps/28 watts), high (3 amps/40 watts).

Product Reviews

Ordering my second set. My first were great but I changed the bars out on my Road King Classic and ruined one of the elements in the process.

Overall a great product and one that I will not ride without. I ride almost year around and find I use these daily throughout the colder months and even during the summer occasionally for those early morning rides with thin gloves.

Install tip -- After having some issues with the throttle side clearance I settled on the following solution: mount the elements inside the bars. First run a string inside the bars and out one of the pre-drilled holes where the clip snaps in. Use the string to pull the wires through. Before you insert the elements, use some fiberglass insulation to form a plug which you can push inside the bar to seal off the airflow. Then roll the element and slide it inside the bar and then using your fingers, seat the adhesive to the inside of the bars. This way you have no problem with throttle sleave binding and you can change grips without worrying about damaging the elements. It also, since the wiring is internal, saves wear and tear on the wire/element connections. The heating ability does not seem to be compromised at all. This may not work for all makes but is a slick install on a Harley. -Duggan Harman

About a year later I am very glad I bought them. Like many mentioned, the switch may or not may work for your personal set up. I ended up using a rocker switch on my set up that I had laying around.

I also used some heat shrink and electrical tape on the left bar to insulate it. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!! That way you have the choice of using the high low setting, or just do like me and set up the high setting only. With the insulation on there both bars are heated evenly and get plenty warm. I am going to buy a set for my brother-in-law for his new bike, and any future bike that I may have. -Joshua Tootell

These are easy to install and work great. My only complaint is the switch is quite ugly. Might be ok on a bike with lots of chrome, but not a sportbike I opted for a more modern looking switch from Kragen that looks great. I installed with the one setting (high only) option, using the resistor to compensate for the less heat transfer into the right side grip. Works great and they feel even in temperature. TIP: put the switch somewhere on the left side so you don't have to take your hand off the accelerator to activate it. -W. Grippo
