Details

Look closely at the surface of highway or industrial warning signs and you will find the unique, hexagonal pattern that identifies 3M SOLAS (Safety Of Life At Sea) Grade Reflective. A clear protective layer bonded over reflective glass microbeads ensures strong reflective power—even in wet conditions. Slightly stretchy and trims easily to any shape. Ideal for curved surfaces like helmets. One of the most intense retro-reflectives in the world. Silver color. 2' long by 2" wide.

The production descriptio...Review by Patrick
The production description above states "SOLAS Grade reflective is slightly stretchy" - however, according to 3M (as of September 2007): "NOTE: Because Scotchlite reflective material – SOLAS grade products do not readily stretch, attaching them to highly elastic materials could adversely affect performance and result in rips or tears. Therefore, 3M recommends not attaching these products to highly elastic materials."

Food for thought. (Posted on 6/26/08)

This is the greatest thing since sliced bread and toilet paper, I laid up multiple lines on a low tack adhesive substrate and created a sheet of SOLAS reflective material that I cut a large design from and attached to my riding coat. You can’t stick this stuff directly on gore type fabric without damaging the membrane so you need to use an alternative product in conjunction with the reflective materials. 11” x 17” sheets of this stuff would be the hot ticket. Stretches easily on helmets, does ok on tighter inside/outside/compound curves. Very versatile product for the price. (Posted on 3/10/08)

Great stuff. I taped a long strip down the back of my [black] hard cases and now they glow in the headlights LONG before anybody sees the bike. (Posted on 2/25/08)

Excellent product. Has stood up to 55K miles and seven years on the back of the saddlebags on my ST1100. Very reflective! (Posted on 10/11/07)
This is some crazy stuff!...Review by Dave
This is some crazy stuff! Almost surreal. Under a soft LED light source, this stuff just GLOWS. Under powerful car headlights- it's almost blinding. One can stick it anywhere they wish as long as its a suitable surface- I tried putting these on my boots and they gunked up, so don't try that. On any solid surface (plastic- helmet), it sticks almost forever, so once its there, don't try to remove it or it will leave a nasty residue. (Posted on 10/9/07)

My Givi topcase came with a very large non-reflective "reflector" on the back of the lid. I replaced the shiny white backing material with SOLAS (one 2' by 2" piece did the job), and what looks like a large reflector is now almost completely reflective. Good stuff! (Posted on 7/5/07)
Awesome stuff! I put this...Review by Carl Kriesant
Awesome stuff! I put this tape all over my helmet. It picks up the smallest amount of light and reflects like nothing you've seen. All those folks in their cages are guaranteed to see with this stuff anywhere on you or your bike.

I just wish I had more places to put it on my bike without being too obtrusive to the styling. (Posted on 5/20/07)

Riding In Low Light Conditions

Being anywhere on the road in low light conditions is more difficult and dangerous. Many drivers become even more awful when twilight falls. These products should help myopic drivers see you a little earlier. Hopefully they will pick out your glowing, irregular, reflective shape well before you are bang- ing your fists and helmet across the hood of their thirsty horseless carriage. Riding more is better. It makes you happier especially when it is dark and the weather is just atrocious. - Mr. Subjective (January 2007)
