Details

Built for hard everyday wear, long trips and extreme adventure and endurance riding. Whether you are heading across town or across Siberia, this is the toughest most reliable single-layer textile jacket and pants available.

The Darien actually was the first armored textile jacket and pants made specifically for long-distance travelers and adventure riders, and today after more than 25 years of continuous improvements and careful refinements it still remains the benchmark for technical motorcycle trip gear.

With its unique single-layer construction there can be no shortcuts. Nothing is hidden under a lining. Hook and loop is used for positioning its comprehensive TF3 impact armor systems.

Darien's ride drier and more comfortably across a wider temperature and climatic range. The armor is easier to custom-position for fit or remove and replace as required. Emergency field repairs are easier, too. (Important if you're somewhere remote.)

Cut like khakis (and some jeans), these unlined overpants are the perfect match for a Darien jacket. Two front pockets, one back pocket, a flapped front fly, and a waistband with belt loops containing a removable Aerostich belt are some practical details.

Full length side zips with inner and outer flaps insure easy on-and-off convenience and severe weather protection. Bent knees, large 3M Scotchlite™ reflective ankle adjustment tabs and shaped, removable TF3 knee armor complete the specifications. 500 Denier Mil-spec Cordura® GORE-TEX® fabric is fully seam taped for comfort and strength. Black, grey or tan. 30–46 waist, regular and long. Made in USA

Bought another pair after they were stolen. Review by Karl
I had a pair of Darien pants for about a year. I use them for commuting and a ride from Minnesota to NYC. I found that someone broke into my locked luggage and stole my originals. These were good enough to order up the exact same pair again.

The fit of the pants is a little odd in that they are not cut like jeans. They are a tall cut. If I pull up the waist, it goes maybe an inch over my belly button. Not that this is a bad thing, just an observation. The leg length is good when I'm on my bike and they are roomy enough for jeans + long grundies when it's cold out. I like how utility and basic they are. The pads are easily adjustable. Sides zip completely from top to bottom, so you can just Chippendale them off rather than hop around on one foot trying to get your muddy boot through. (Posted on 10/28/14)
Darien pants for the summer Review by John
I have a Roadcrafter one piece, but it's quite warm during the summer in Georgia in stop and go city traffic. As a supplement I purchased a pair of Darien pants and paired them with a Tourmaster Flex 3 four season jacket and wear the armored mesh piece with the pants. This is a great combination, with the ventilation of the jacket and the ability to leave the pants on when walking in to work, the mall, etc., to maintain ATGATT. When the temperatures cool down I will go back to my Hi-Viz one piece. The best of both worlds. (Posted on 7/26/14)
Well made - very solid Review by Bart
I recently bought a pair of Darian pants to replace my (badly) aging pair of Marsee Adventure Gear pants, which are no longer made. The Darians fit nicely over the same size jeans. The workmanship is top notch - very well sewn and sealed. They started out quite stiff, but they're beginning to loosen up a little. It has been quite cool (for California) with temperatures below freezing, and these have kept me quite comfortable at 75 mph on my daily commute on my naked (no fairings) motorcycle.

I look forward to replacing the jacket with a Darian jacket - the Aerostich quality is quite compelling. Good gear, well made here in the USA. Would definitely buy again.

Mixed Review Review by John
I've had these pants for a couple seasons and can say that when the zippers work, the pants are wonderful. I ordered the same size I wear in a street pant and they fit over my street clothes perfectly. I do tuck my street pants into boots if it's raining as these ride up enough that street pants poke out under them and will get wet, but other than that the fit is just right. And the finish is fantastic. I have these in black and can get away with wearing the Darien pants with any of my gear, into store, etc., without them seeming out of place or jumping out at you – very non-descript. They are also entirely, perfectly, completely waterproof in the worst conditions I've ridden in. That said, I've had two zipper failures now, and while the folks at Aerostich could not have been more cordial or collegial, I have to wonder if I would buy these again. I had the fly zipper bust open at one point and last week at the far end of a loop ride, I had a leg zipper stop come off and the bottom zipper with it - I had to ride home without the pants. I dont think i put unusual stresses on the zippers because of my size or misuse, and havent worn the pants more than thirty or forty times, so am having some concern over the failures. I'm going to send it in for repairs and then figure out whether to keep them or sell them. (Posted on 9/19/13)
Darien Zipper Failure Review by Joseph
Purchased Darien Pants and Jacket as Christmas present from my wife in December 2012. On 28 August Aerostich refunded the price of the pants plus shipping I paid to return them three times for failed zippers.
I ride year round in Seattle WA and love the Darien suit, but the new "waterproof" zippers are very weak. In fact the second time in I requested and received the old style zipper and several teeth fell out of it within a few days. So, my message to Aerostich is that your competitors have improved their product over the last 13 years and if you want to stay on top, then don't make changes to your zippers without testing them a few thousand times. My last pair went five years before a zipper failure. Lastly and most importantly, thank you for the excellent customer service. (Posted on 9/19/13)
Snap broke first time on Review by Martin E.
When I put the pants on for the first time the right side waist snap just came off. I would send them back but it's easier just to get them fixed locally. The fit is a bit tighter than my FirstGear pants (same waist size) and the material is quite stiff making them somewhat awkward to get on and off over my boots in the parking lot at work... maybe they'll loosen up as they break in. Anyway they do keep out the rain and are warm enough on cold mornings. (Posted on 9/14/13)
Love them BUT..... Review by Daniel
My second pair of Dariens, I bought these as a "training garment" and found no issues..

But...

The second time I wore them was to the MN BMW Rally and about 1 hour after arriving the fly zipper just gave up. Trying to get it to operate, 3 teeth fell off.. I bought these pants a size larger than I normally wear, so I can't blame it on being tight.

Anyway, the new RiRi zipper may be waterproof, but I won't trust another one of them. The pants have been returned for repair, and a YYK zipper was requested. During the rally I was informed by several other people of RiRi zipper failure..

Not sure what RiRi stands for?? Maybe it's "your fly is open"??

I have 4 Darien jackets, a pair of Darien pants, and NUMEROUS "Stich" items throughout my house, car, and even desk at work (loved the stainless insulated bottle), and I'm not going to let this failure scare me away from Aerostich, but I will be a bit more cautious in the future.. Darien Pants 155 Review by Kurt
Got my pants and the very next day had a chilly 30 deg FLA winter ride on I75 45min to Gainesville. The pants were remarkably warm and comfortable. The "Fit" is perfect. Can't say enough about the Darien Pants..Thanks for making them in the USA (Posted on 1/17/13)
Darien Pants Review by joe
they fit perfectly and plenty of room to move around in with jeans underneath and very easy to put on and take off. i recomend these as well as my roadcrafter suit to fellow riders, thank you for the wonderfull products so far (Posted on 11/30/12)
Wonderful pants for men, but what about us girls? Review by Angela
My boyfriend, his father and his brother both own a pair of Darien pants and love them. I just ordered mine and have only worn them once, and also really like them. They are by far the best pant out there if you are looking for an over pant that zips all the way off. The only down side is that I am a woman, and these pants are made for a man. They come very high up (just below my chest), and are not shaped to fit over hips. I have to unzip mine from the top to get them on over my hips and then cinch them up once they are on in order for them to fit in the waist. I wish that Darien would make a pair of riding pants for women who want not only the excellent protection but also a proper fit. There is a bonus of the not so perfect fit... they keep my back really warm! (Posted on 10/11/12)
I like them Review by Shawn
I've put over 3000 miles in less than three months in these pants. When it was hot out, yes they were a bit warm, but not uncomfortable (as long as I was moving). I got the grey pants, and they didn't seem too stiff out of the box. Not more than expected anyway. Like I said, they have over 3000 miles and are great. I have worn them through MAJOR rain/thunder storms and my pants were dry. I did have my regular pants tucked into my boots. A couple of times I didn't and about three inches of the cuff was wet. I think that these pants are great and I'm glad I got them. Worth the price. (Posted on 9/26/12)
Remedy for pants riding up Review by Doc
I'm 5 feet, six inches tall, average build. I don't have a big gut or a big butt. I bought the smallest pair of Dariens that would fit over my street pants (had to send a smaller pair back, too small). I liked the pants, but when I rode, they would ride up. The knee pads would be on my thighs. Worse, the waist-band dug into my ribs, making me very uncomfortable. Aerostich customer support had no helpful suggestions.

Hold-down boot-strap stirrups from suspenders.com have been the answer for me. Now I enjoy my pants instead of feeling like I dropped $300+ for something I hated. (Posted on 9/4/12)
Another Pair soon Review by Tim
I bought my Darien pants in 2001 and have worn them for more than 80,000 miles in every weather imaginable. I had a low side crash in 2002 and scuffed the lower right leg - the Darien's didn't care until 2011 when they just started leaking. I brought them in to the store, and the only thing better than the pants was the customer service. I had a cup of coffee while one of the employees sewed on a patch complete with the Gore-tex(TM or circle R? Don't want you in trademark jail). No charge for the service! The technician warned that the membrane were starting to outlive the service life, and showed me the interior discoloration. Sure enough - now in 2012, after another 5,000 miles, the pants have started to seep when riding in the wet. Thanks, Darien, for 10 years of service. I'll be riding to Duluth to buy another pair soon. (Posted on 7/27/12)
Just fine. Review by Timothy
I've worn these pant riding just once so far. They fit fine and are well-constructed. My route took me through some rain and the pants kept my legs dry. (Posted on 6/27/12)
Wouldn't wear anything else Review by Keith
My first pair is finally starting to show some wear after many years (more than 10, I think maybe about 15) and a lot of miles. The zippers are going out and goretex lining wearing in spots, so naturally I just ordered another pair. I've tried other pants but I like my Darien pants more than any others. The only drawback is the heat when it's above 90, but I'd rather be hot than ride without my gear. (Posted on 5/31/12)
Darien Pants - why buy anything else Review by Barry from Oz
What can you say, the comfort and fit are spot on. Great weather protection and road protection (have not tried this one yet) and have no plans too. Would definitely recommend them to anyone who wants style, comfort and 2 levels of protection (weather and road). (Posted on 5/31/12)
Eh... Review by Themike
Well, I ordered the Darien pants solely based off the reputation Aerostich has earned. As I am 6' 3" and have a 34" inseam, I ordered the Long option. Unfortunately they ride up my leg while I am saddled up on my KLR650; not a short bike. They ride up past my boot and basically look ridiculous. In Aerostich's defense, this can be fixed by sending them back and paying $60 for a custom leg length plus $50 since it is an existing garment plus shipping. In retrospect I'm irritated that the measurements for the "Long" were not published as this would have saved me a significant amount of money and dissatisfaction. If I send them back the pants will have cost me a total of $427 plus shipping by the time it is all said and done. My BMW Summer 2 pants fit perfect and were a fraction of the cost. Granted they use cheaper material for the fabric but the included armor is superior and more than makes up for it. (Posted on 5/21/12)
Love my Darien Pants Review by Steve
This is my second pair of Darien pants. I lost a great deal of weight and my shortened 46R pants were retired in favor of a stock 38R pair. I wear them with a pair of LDComfort tights year around as the knee pads get annoying on my bare legs. I wore the first pair for 18K miles and they kept me dry in very downpours and warm (enough) without a heated liner in mid 30 degree days. I've worn them on 1,100 mile days and found them comfortable all day. I don't ride in anything else any more. The new pair will be leaving with me on a 10-16K mile, four-six week ride to Alaska next month.

Aerostich has taken great care of me. I had the 46s shortened then subsequently lengthened as I'd had them cut too much off below the knee. The zipper broke on the 46s and was replaced under warranty. Each time they beat the time their estimated times. As I recall the lengthening and repair were done within a day of receiving them. They were out of stock on the 38s and quoted me 3 weeks to ship. They arrived in 8 business days (Posted on 5/18/12)
Excellent So Far Review by Mark R
Ordered a little large and they are great that way. Very comfortable and easy to get on and off for my daily commute. Dry through a couple of rainy rides and warm with jeans down into the mid to low 40s. Will wear long johns when colder. Great product been riding for almost 40 years. Should have bought them sooner. perfect fit Review by dubs
I received my pants a couple of days early from the fine folks at Aerostich who helped me through the finer details via phone of selecting Darien or Roadcrafter. After searching many reviews, I wanted every feature of the Darien but the fit of a Roadcrafter. I ultimately settled on the proper fit for the pant and went one size smaller on the jacket. Perfect!

We took an early spring ride in February from Nashville to VA and on up to NJ and, with a couple of layers underneath, the pants were warm, comfortable and dry. Only my toes were cold but that's another review. (Posted on 3/1/12)

Which Pants? Darien vs. AD1 vs. Utility...Regular vs. Light

AD1 pants fit me a little better than Darien pants. Their rise is less, so the waistband rides a little lower, and it’s slightly curved, which I also like better. The AD1’s included belt is a 1.5" Aerostich money belt, versus the stronger 1.5" side-release-buckled belt on the Darien pants. And compared to the Darien pant the AD1’s knees are ‘bent’ a couple of degrees more, which is nice for bikes with a little more rear-positioned footrests. The radius of this bend is a little bigger, too, so there is a bit more space for knee pads. Darien pants fit and feel a lot like Khaki's or regular pants and AD1's fit and feel a little more like jeans.

See the comparison...

Up to about 70ºf I wear my AD1 Lights over regular jeans or khaki pants. When it’s warmer they go over Aerostich cotton riding shorts…which we sew right here, too. The new Utility Pants fit like the AD1's, and have all the function, protection and styling of those, but without the full-length side-zips, belt, or reflective on the leg adjustment tabs. You can slip them on and wear them all day, whether logging hundreds of miles or just riding across town to run errands. Remove the TF3 kneepads and these super-tough pants are practical as everyday off-bike wear, too.

– Mr. Subjective

"The Darien and AD1 pants fit a little different…The Darien's fit like khaki 'Docker'-type chinos and dress pants. They have a straight waistband and a higher rise than jeans. The AD1's have a lower rise and a slightly conical waistband that is angled a bit lower in front. So these fit more like old-school denim jeans. I slightly prefer the AD1's fit."

- Mr. Subjective.
