Genuine to the core. Waxed cotton has been used to make garments waterproof and breathable since the 1800’s. Now this time-tested fabric is combined with the advanced technology, innovative design of the Roadcrafter one piece suit to create a highly protective, incredibly comfortable and completely authentic one piece Cousin Jeremy riding suit.

The unique two-zipper entry system allows you to step into the suit and be ready to ride in just seconds. Unzips and removes just as quickly when you arrive at your destination. The luxurious black nylon inner lining slips easily over your street clothes, and the outer shell design is tailored to minimize wind flutter and drag at higher speeds.

Tough but supple 10-ounce wax cotton outer fabric requires no ‘break-in’, melding and forming to your body from the very first time you put it on. The more you wear it, the more comfortable it becomes, developing a weathered patina with extended use. Periodically re-waxing your suit will extend the long-life usefulness of this highly functional riding tool as well as maintainin maximum waterproofness in severe riding conditions. Removable TF3 or TF6 armor is included in the shoulders, elbows, and knees, along with a second layer of waxed cotton fabric at these critical areas to increase abraision protection. Pre-installed loop is integrated into the inner sil-nylon liner for easily adding optional back armor or hip armor.

Over three decades of innovations are integrated into the everyday useful suit features, including: nine strategically placed outer and one inner pocket for ample storage for your everyday carry needs, provisions for optional removable arm and thigh map pockets, effecticve water resistant zippered underarma nd back vents, flapped hip-side zippers for quick access to your street pants, an all-day comfortable Ultrasuede collar, and a variety of adjustable tabs and zippers allowing for a custom fine-tuned fit. The flaps covering the back vent area and the front logo pocket are made from the same color and weight fabric as the jacket body, but for riders wanting additional nighttime visibility, these flaps can be sewn with optional 3M Scotchlight® Reflective material.

Give a cousin Jeremy a try and you won’t be dissapointed with the hand-crafted, waterproof, breathable functionality incorporated into an easy to wear, proven design suitable for riding warmer when it’s cool, drier when it’s wet and cooler when it’s hot. Simultaneously edgy and effortlessly cool, while providing a superior fit, unmatched comfort and extreme performance when riding through all-weather, over any distance to every destination.

Oilskins

Oilskins

A hundred years ago that’s how appreciative North Sea sailors and commercial fisherman referred to their waxed cotton foul weather gear. It was made from a combination of waxes and oils that saturated the tight weaves of Egyptian cotton sailcloth to make wet-proof, tear-resistant, industrial-strength work clothes. Waxed cotton was so outstanding it was soon adopted by others who needed to be outside regardless of weather, including farmers, ranchers, herders, hunters and motorcycle riders. Waxed cotton is the first breathable-waterproof textile.

This historical fabric develops a beautiful personalized patina after a bit of use, burnishing itself to a warm, natural appearance that’s easy to appreciate. And it's recently become popular again, this time partly as fashion because it looks so cool, and partly for it's functional benefits.

Waxed cotton was always a perfect material for all-weather functional motorcycle wear, so until about twenty years ago many experienced street and touring riders chose English-made waxed jackets as their everyday go-to gear.* It was never purchased for fashion, and was sweaty on nice days, offered no impact-resisting armor and had zero technical features. It worked well enough, but there was definitely room for improvement.

In 1999 the first Falstaff jacket (and later the Falstaff pants) introduced a bunch of those improvements, while keeping the wonderful windproof/waterproof/breathable 100% original waxed cotton fabric and classic all-cotton lining. Compared to early waxed cotton styles the Falstaff is a lot more comfortable across a wider range of conditions, easier to use and more crash protective.

Falstaff collar detailFor example, imported waxed cotton gear often uses a small belt-buckle to cinch the collar. This may be historically accurate styling, but isn’t possible to manipulate those little buckles surely and quickly if you actually depend on your gear for all-weather situations. A Falstaff accomplishes it with a classic collar strap design, fitted with hook-and-loop, so it’s fast and easy to adjust the jacket’s collar on-the-go. Practical improvements like this are what helped Falstaff gear become a hand-crafted sewn-in-the USA classic.

Separately, waxed cotton messenger bags also have as long and noble a history as seaman’s oilskins…with added military applications during both world wars for use as waterproof courier and map pouches, as well as specialized ammunition, first aid and weapons bags. All over the world some military forces today still use waxed cotton bags for specialized applications. Here too, Aerostich waxed cotton messenger bags work better and last longer than re-created fashion designs and styles.

Waxed Cotton Messenger Bag detailFor example, the lower corners of all messenger bags always are the highest wear areas for every design of this shape and form. Because this wears out well before the rest, Aerostich messenger bags are made with wear-resistant Cordura reinforcements in these locations. Re-created waxed cotton bags don’t include long-use-proven refinements like this careful little detail.

Which is why Aerostich waxed cotton messenger bags work better and last longer. Today’s Aerostich handcrafted waxed cotton messenger bags and Falstaff jackets (and pants) are genuine originals, and long-use-proven made-in-USA classics.

*Including me. Back in 1970 I was one of those riders. And my waxed cotton gear was proudly worn to the point of practical uselessness with largely holed-out pockets, threadbare sleeve ends and broken zippers…It took about five years of daily use to wear mine out.

Shoulder Mount for GoPro Cameras

Shoulder Mount for GoPro Cameras

Camera Pocket Loop

By far the best POV (point of view) location, for the best film result, because it shows the rider’s hands, handlebar and motorcycle’s instruments at the bottom of the frame. There’s no comparison to other mount locations. Far nicer video results than are possible with a helmet cam, bar cam or tank cam mount. See the images and short video (link below). You won’t be disappointed.

PS - We’ve been offering this mount for ten years in our ‘optional and alterations’ product menu. Few noticed it. Then, in the fall of 2021 the ’shoulder mount' was introduced as an exciting and better way to get on-bike video by professional MotoGP video creators. It’s not new. It’s been available here for a long time. #344 $35.00

More Sizing Info:

Between Sizes:

Overall length* difference is 1 1⁄4".

  • Example - 42 (S, R or L) suit is 1 1⁄4" longer (taller) overall than a size 40 (S, R or L) suit.

Short to Regular:

Overall length* difference is 3".

  • Example - A 42S is 3" shorter than a 42R.
  • Leg length difference is +1" above & +1⁄2" below the knee. The remaining 1 1⁄2" is in the Torso.
  • Sleeve difference is 1 1⁄4", shoulder to wrist.

Regular to Tall:

Overall length* difference is 2".

  • Example - A 42L is 2" longer (taller) than a 42R.
  • Leg length difference is +1⁄2" above knee & +1⁄2" below the knee. The remaining 1" is in the Torso.
  • Sleeve difference is 1".

* Overall length = collar to ankle

We can adjust the sleeve lengths, elbow armor position, leg length, knee armor position, and many other variables, but we cannot change the body/torso length. For semi-custom fitted garments, we start with the body/torso size that is the closest and change the arms and legs as needed.

A great fit is critical to the long-term enjoyment and satisfaction of any garment. This is something we do better than anyone else with graded off the rack sizes. There are about 32 standard R-3 sizes vs. about 8 with typical S, M, L, XL grading. If the crotch in an R-3 is slightly binding, the garment will never have a chance to become your 'go to' riding gear, and I'd like it to have that chance.

One piece coveralls are the best gear for day-to-day short-hop utility riding because they work as a complete protection system all in one garment. But like mechanic's and trade-worker's coveralls, for comfort the crotch needs to be low enough to never bind.
