Started out great, but not so good

I really like the compactness of this product. I keep it in my top box for those occasions when I feel the need for some extra protection. Don't think of this as a lock, it's really only a layer of defense. The cable can be easily cut or the plastic housing smashed, the only value it offers is the ability to make noise.
It worked fine for a few uses but the last time I went to use it the siren only made a barely audible scratching noise. I replaced the battery with no change. It's headed for the trash can.
