5th Edition, freshly updated and published, 2/18

The expected high quality Nat Geo fit and finish; excellent paper, beautiful photos and a sewn binding. Sized for the tank bag, but a kind of awkward format for road use if you're accustomed to large paper maps and big screens. A spiral binding would make sense here.

Seems best suited to a winter's night day-dreaming/route planning in conjunction with something like Rever.

The Federal Highway Administration created this program, and we should be grateful for that. We should be even more grateful that their website ( has recently received an upgrade. It's still kind of clunky, but way better that it has been. Think of the website as a supplement, not as a substitute for the book. I find the website easier to navigate than the book, so use it for a tasting menu; there's much more info in the book, and the maps are better, too.

You'll not regret hours spent on a National Scenic Byway or All-American Road; 150 trips to choose from!

The National Scenic Byways program has been around for decades, and we should have gratitude for the Federal Highway Administration for that, and quite a bit more. The website supporting this program,, is pretty lame for the 21st century and kind of clunky, but the baseline info is there.

This book goes the extra mile, and should be what you are looking at on a snowy night in February as you plan your summer adventures.

Make it better? Spiral binding, and integration with Rever or similar.

As it stands, welcome insight to the byways of this incredible landscape we share - you'll be a grateful patriot and happy biker.

5th edition now available on amazoid, but functionally indistinguishable from the fourth edition offered here.

Go for it.. (Posted on 2/19/18)
