This is a Good to Very Go...
Review by John Bulger on 5/7/07 -
This is a Good to Very Good hand -held CB radio, I give it 3.5 smiles. What it lacks is 1) a better antenna system for on bike use. The flexiable "Rubber Duck" works about as good as licking your finger and sticking it in the BNC jack! Consider a no-ground plane antenna mounted somewhere on the bike for best range. $50.00 to $80.00 buck more but worth it. 2) Battery life - pittiful. You have to use High Power in order to get any Tx distance and when off the bikes power supply, your dry cells last about 7 minutes of talk time or 4 minutes if using rechargables.
Pluses - NOAA station receiver is clear! Excelant design small and light. Clear display and easy button control even with gloves on. Great receiver section and Tx is a solid 4 watts RMS. Can be tweeked to run up to 12 watts PEP on AM.
Suggested that you us it in a tank bag or cubby hold. Trying to mount it to the bars in some sort of RAM mount might cause you to loose it! GET A BETTER ANTENNA SYSTEM ON THE BIKE! The Rubber Duck is only good for close range > .5 miles. A good ANT will yeid 5 to 12 miles! REALLY. Midland also sels a telescoping ant for hald held mode that is far better that the Duck but is not recomended if you are walking around with it. IMHO
