Touch Screen Elkskin Roper Gloves

I bought these gloves after quickly going through several pairs from other manufacturers. These have held up well, and I expect them to give me many tens of thousands of miles of use.

I like the simple design. They look terrible after a little bit, though. The natural leather stains black from holding the grips.

And the touchscreen feature is useless. The thread came out of the fingertips after just a few weeks, which is just as well because they didn't work very well anyway.

I'd buy these again, but I'd get the standard style. It's a bit misleading to call these touch screen, because they're not.

The Elkskin ropers are an extremely durable glove, but I've had a couple of issues. One, despite following the break in directions, my first pair never did. They became excellent work/garden gloves. They are awesome to clear brush.

So, I was given a second pair, same size....this pair now has about 3K miles on them and they seem to be breaking in nicely.

The touch screen feature is so-so. because the finger tips are not receptive. when a device is flat on a table, the gloves work great, but when the device is in a holder on the bike, being able to use the tip of your finger to "stab" the icons? Not so much.

So, good gloves, get the right size and break them in properly. Be prepared to be underwhelmed by the touch screen feature!

These gloves are soft to the touch and fit very well. Sizing is spot on if you use the charts. They are not pre-curved like some moto gloves, but they will naturally stretch over times and become curved enough that they don't bunch up in the palm. Use the instructions--get them wet then ride until dry and they will conform to your hand perfectly. I've had them for a couple of years now and they hardly show any wear. I find myself using them for driving a car and even chores outside. They are that nice. Kind of expensive for rancher gloves but they are high quality. The inside doesn't come apart in little pieces on your hands like the cheap Wells-Lamonts or other gloves you can buy for $20 at a discount store. I only wish that the competition version would have a small padded area in the palm under that extra leather patch sewed in there. Impact protection on the palm is important to me for motorcycle gloves as much as abrasion protection.

Been riding daily with these glove since receiving them. Fit is great using the sizing chart. Quite a bit thicker than the deer skin or other purpose built riding gloves I have been wearing and that is part of what I was after. Stitching for the touch screen works very well but is not centered on the finger tip, it kind of runs from the center of the finger and off to one side. The gloves work great and I don't thing about them at all while riding, which is just about the best thing you can say about your gear. I would add the option of have a velcro and loop closer, only because I like a move secure feeling around the wrist. A perforated back model for summer riding might be good also.

I seem to be always in the hunt for the perfect pair of gloves There must be 10 pair in my bottom drawer. My wife giggles every time I say that I think that I’ve finally found it.
In any case, my needs are simple. I want a super comfortable unlined glove that fits well, is noticeable by auto drivers, that fits under my jacket sleeves, and will let me communicate with my phone GPS while underway.
Okay, here we go. Theses gloves are super comfortable. The elkskin is smooth and soft out of the box while at the same time rugged. Based on my previous favs, which were deerskin, I feel sure that they will wear well. I always go for unlined because I find that they are good down to the mid 40 degrees and range up to anything that I can throw at it including the California deserts in summer. I am not interested in riding when temps dip below about 50ish. The sizing interested me because I have a thick, American build with shorter fingers. Most SML sizing is too much this or too little that — especially the European cut gloves, which seemed to be sized for long and lean riders named Guenther or Spider. So, after having a time printing the righ size hand print from the on-line catalog to measure my hand, I discovered an improved graphic that told me to measure from just below my pointer finger to just below my pinkie. Nice. For me, the sizing turned out to be about a half size too large and I am counting on the breaking in with hand soaks in water and then riding to form fit them with just a bit of extra room when done. The yellow color is both noticeable by drivers and reflects sun during the warmer months. There is also the issue of them being great looking in an odd way like people seem to go for those yellow-colored Timberland ankle boots. The snaps at the wrists help them slip nicely under my jacket cuffs, which looks tidy, does not allow them to flop around at the wrist when underway, and also allows me to see my watch when stopped at a traffic signal without too much harangue. One writer expressed frustration that the magical electrical connectors in the finger tips and thumb don’t seem to work. I think the magic is made possible by dunking the gloves in water, which help in the curved and form fitting as well as helping make the necessary connections between fingers, gloves, and fibers for touch screen use. Anyway, do not be concerned that your gloves will somehow look ruined after the recommended breaking in procedures.
Like everything that I have bought before from Aerostich, one can easily tell that these gloves were designed and made for American-sized Riders by American-sized riders. Great product. Great value. Great service and delivery.

Bruce is right on target, glove great, touch screen worthless. I must admit first glove was 9.5 fingers too long and returned. Next glove 9.0 palm excellent but maybe fingers still too long. Plus I have Otter case so maybe that has something to do with it. But had to remove gloves to use. So the roper is great the touch screen is not.

The gloves themselves are fantastic; I've been using Aerostich products for about a decade now.... why the hell did I not try these gloves before now?!? Fit is predictable. Comfort is first-rate.
Now as to the touch screen part... where is it? My iPhone 7 ignores the stitching inserts completely. I've tried all the fingers and thumbs hoping that something would "talk" to my phone, but to no avail.
So, I still have to take off a glove to access the phone screen.

I read all the reviews before purchasing. Most seemed to say the gloves ran big (though a few say they run small?!?). Measuring as described on the website left my dominant hand at or just under a 9.5, with my non-dominant hand at or just over a 9. I am of very thin build. Wanting to be sure I got exactly the right size I ordered both a size 9 set and a size 8.5. When they came in, the size 9 was dead on with my thumbs but very roomy around my fingers, even more roomy around the center of my hand, and just plain loose around my wrists; so loose I don't have to unsnap the wrist snap to put on or take off the gloves. The size 8.5 fit very well all over except was too short in the thumbs, so much so that they would have been uncomfortable to wear while gripping a handlebar. I have sent the size 8.5 back and will apparently have to sew a dart into the size 9s around the wrist so they can't easily come off in case I down the bike. Though they will still fit looser than I normally like in a glove, I have to keep telling myself that it doesn't matter if they are baggy while off the bike, it matters that they are comfortable and functional on the bike, which they are.
Other than the sizing, I like the nice thick and extremely soft leather. The touch screen threads are great on the thumb and middle finger but a little far to the outside of the pointer finger for my tastes. As others have stated, the touch screen threads don't work for me out of the bag but I'm sure when they get worn in with some dirt and grime on them they will be fine. Overall pleased with the gloves; yes I'll have to alter them but when you are thin like me you have to alter all your clothes.

These without question the worst gloves I have ever owned. the palm leather bunches up under the base of fingers, I am constantly trying to smooth them out, throttle hand pain is awful. I have had dozens of gloves in my 50+ years of riding. I will be using these when using the chain saw and not riding.

I got the touchscreen version in natural. Had no problems with break in. I did have to return my original order. They were too tight when using the size chart. You may want to order a size up if you like your gloves to fit a little bit loose, like i do. They are not pre-curved so the palm does bunch up a very little, but it's not noticeable when riding. The leather is so soft that to dont feel it. They work very well for temps 40F to about 80F. The wind does not go through them and they do breathe well. The touchscreen threading is not great though...it works, but after about 1 month the threads start coming unraveled. Would be nice if that part of the design was more durable. Otherwise they are really nice.
