Waste of $Review by DonMarco
This consists of about $3.00 worth of parts. A master link for a bicycle chain part of which is thrown away and a piece of fabric which is the new strap. It's got some holes punched in and is without grommets so the holes as well as the ends get fuzzy. A leather strap would have been just as useful.
PIA to install. Works, at least. Shame of Aerostitch and SIDI for the rip off price and the poor design. (Posted on 9/6/18)
Echoing othersReview by Randy
While I will agree that the price seems a bit steep for what is in the package, it really gets the job done. I was never really a fan of the original straps that could somewhat easily be removed from the boot when not being worn, and appreciate the newer captive design. The boot fits well, the initial adjustability is great, and once dialed in, it is a no-brainer. I also like the little details- the nylon bushing, the extra screw. All told, a great solution for a real problem. (Posted on 12/24/17)
Seriously, it's a great ideaReview by Fred
Hi guys, just a note to say I got the parts and things went well.
definitely more fun than replacing bearings on the combine, though I
seem to have used some of the same tools!
On that note, please give someone or several folks a big pat on the
back for coming up with the fix. It's kind of Rube Goldberg meets
MacGyver. Hey I've got a bike link, chicago screw and some nylon
strap. You know what we could do?
Seriously, it's a great idea. My congrats. Person must have some
farmer in them!! (Posted on 5/26/17)
Only optionReview by Howdager
This replacement strap works as advertised, which is a good thing because it's really the only option if you have a broken strap! I was able to do the install without a grinder, I just used a drill to drill out the rivets. In fact I did the entire job with just a drill, a pair of needle nose pliers (to pull out the pin) and a screwdriver. This seems like a pretty good fix and is probably better than the original strap design. My only gripe is that $24 seems a little steep for what you get, particularly since you're only fixing it due to a poorly designed strap that obviously is a weak link on an otherwise robust boot. Still, it's worth the money to have my boot back! Thanks to Aerostich for making this available, most companies would have left me out in the cold trying to cobble together a fix (pun intended). Cheers. (Posted on 4/7/17)
Comfortable fitReview by Monsignore
I had ordered the regular plastic replacement ratchet strap and received this, instead. Instructions clearly explained why, and how to mount this new replacement. I was a little worried about taking a cut-off wheel to my beloved CBTs and nicked the padding inside the tongue a little. I would suggest using a cone-shaped grinder to cut the head off the rivet, and wearing eye protection.
I did have to buy the appropriate drill but, but otherwise, replacement time was on par with that suggested in the directions. Keep your old strap to use as a guide when figuring out which hole you'll use.
And the boot fits nice and snug. Even though the other boot's strap doesn't need replacing, I'm thinking of swapping it out anyway because of how comfy the new one is. (Posted on 11/25/16)
