Glad I got the AluminumWhen I went to order these the steel were out of stock. So, I sprung for the Aluminum. I'm really glad I did.
I never changed a (good sized) tire before, but I know that the back tire of a G650gs (17x3.5 Metzler Tourance) was not gonna come off with a couple of flat blade screw drivers. After watch some U-Tube of...um...creative bead breaking with logs and tree branches, or even running over the tire with a car (yikes!) I looked for a tool I could carry.
These are light enough and strong enough. If I were doing this at home with any frequency I would want the steel edition. But, the Aluminum are light enough to carry..AND..with just a bit of wrestling, prying, and pushing I was able to break the bead.
Yes, there are better tools for breaking the bead. BUT, I can't imagine there is anything so light weight and easy to carry that can actually get the job done.
Yep, it is a few bucks for the Aluminum set. Yep, it is worth it. If I have to do this once in my life out some place, I will be very glad to have this tool with me.
And, at the current local rates for local shops, one more tire change and this tool is paid for.Posted on

Great toolsGreat tool, easy to break the bead on my sport touring tires. Makes a challenging job much easier. Strong and light enough to carry along on my trips. Paid for itself after the first two tires I changed myself.
