  1. Never did this before
The closest BMW shop to me is 90 miles away. It is a real hassle to drop off a bike for any kind of work. So...I am doing things I've never done before.

Last weekend I spooned off a worn out rear and spooned a new one on. whew!. Then I put the wheel on this balancer. This is the easiest part of the job! In just a few minutes with a few stick-on wheel weights everything looked good.

I set this balancer on some jack stands I have, but two cinderblocks would have worked as well, or a couple of chairs.

If I were just repairing a flat on the side of the road I would not mess with this; but, If I take a long enough trip where I will wear out a tire, I might just warp this up in a sock and carry it in the bottom of a side case so I can do the full job in a Motel 6 parking lot. You can get a tire shipped ahead a day or two, but finding a shop, and a shop that has time.... I really like that such a useful and easy to use special tool takes up so little room. It can be used anywhere there is a flat spot and two equal height supports taller that your axle height.

I am really glad I purchased this tool. It is one thing to hope that a shop gets the balance right; it is another thing to KNOW you got the balance right.

If you can take a wheel off your motorcycle you have all the skill needed to very effectively use this tool. The only caveat is that this precision instrument is so sensitive you have to be careful to not let the perfect become the enemy of the good. I added 1/4 oz at a time. But, I believe this thing is 1/8 oz or 1/16 oz. sensitive.

  2. Compact Wheel Balancer
    Works great
You just need to take your time with it and let the wheel settle each time.
With this compact wheel balancer, each wheel is a two beer process.

  3. Wheel Balancer
This compact wheel balancer is simply the cat's pajamas. My 750 Nighthawk is smooth as glass at redline in fifth gear (118 mph) on Michelin tires balance with this tool. No bull.

  4. Wheel Balancer
This is a super wheel balancer. I have used it for years and it will easily balance down to <1/4 oz.

Be sure to have the valve cap on before you start- it will effect the balance, especially metal ones.

If you have a BMW 1200 with the large rear hub hole, you will need the 1200 adapter.

  5. Super Balancer
I have been using Marc's balancer for many years on my various BMW bikes- LT down.

It is VERY sensitive. A metal valve cover will be detected.
