Transit 3 Waterproof Leather Two Piece Suit

SKU
325-326

After a six year absence, it's back and better than ever.

From its revolutionary introduction in 2008 and through its discontinuance in 2013 which was caused by materials (supply-chain) complications, this was the best leather gear available.

The NEW Transit 3 has all of the exact same features and details of the original. It's still just as durable. And as tough. And as waterproof. (The Transit 3's leather is a bit softer and even more comfortable, though.)

This two-piece waterproof/breathable leather suit is a long-term investment in all-weather protection and comfort you will appreciate on every ride. Jacket and Pants are available together or separately.

  1. Ideal commuter gear
I just received the Transit suit and used it for my commute to work, which was in 29 degree weather this week. This suit is ideal for commuting, and is simply what I have been waiting for. Waterproof means I don't need my PVC rain gear anymore. Lots of peace of mind because of the excellent included armor. I also used to wear a reflective vest, which again, I no longer need because of the built in large reflective panels across the back and on each leg. The leather is top quality.
Regarding fit, I am wearing the pants as an overpant. I ordered the size of my waist and this fit fine as an overpant. The length is perfect too. For the jacket, I again ordered my exact chest size and the fit is good. I would have preferred the cut to be a little shorter in front so it doesn't impede the ability to sit or crouch, but I just tuck under the front to fix that problem. All in all, I am very happy with the suit and look forward to trying it out in the rain and the summer sun.

  2. TRANSIT SUITS ME
I kept reading and rereading the description of the Transit Suit in the catalog supplements. It seemed to be what I had been looking for but the cost held me back for a while. My goals were to: 1) Look good and 2) It had to do the job for sport/touring duty (a tall order).
I have used my 2 piece RoadCrafter since 1991. Thoroughly tested and rebuilt several years ago. The major problem with it is it's too hot for me in the summer behind my '96 BMW RT fairing. So I was always carrying a mesh jacket and Kevlar jeans to ride in as back up. Well, my new Transit Suit arrived in October so we will see how it handles the heat/humidity next summer. I live in the NYC area.
However, this fall it's showing its weather capability well: In the cooler weather. It's comfy for me at 50 degrees with thin layer of tee's and an insulated liner beneath the jacket and long johns on below. It fits well and I have actually gotten several positive complements on its look/fit. Mission #1 accomplished.
The other requirement: Function. Fit and comfit are good for all day riding, but in its features it ain't no roadcrafter. Difficulties I've had are:1) External pockets are too tight, too small and are difficult to get items in and out of. However, the 2 Jacket inner pockets are good for my phone and wallet. Urination (without dropping trousers) is almost impossible - maybe the pants fit too well. The zipper doesn't go down far enough and there is a gusset right behind it. I can't put the suit on as one piece, I have to don the pants and jacket separately, then zip them together. I'm sure more flexible guys could do it. The zipper works well but is difficult to initially engage.
I am also concerned with the armor - it seems to be too thin, although it makes for a very nice fitting suit. It doesn't have the thickness of the older TF3 stuff that molds itself to you, giving confidence that it will protect you at impact by spreading the hit over a large area. If I test it, I'll report on its effectiveness. So far so good.

Overall, I am enjoying its looks and comfort.
