  1. Got it right this time - now my favorite pants
I got the size right on my second order, and now they are my first choice riding pants except for very cold weather. I had plenty of reservations about my first pair - see my review of 5/25/2021. When I lost a little weight and that pair got loose at the waist, I replaced them with 32" waist, 34" inseam. The knee armor sits right where it should and stays there. Yes, they sag and bag around the ankles somewhat when off the bike, but the effect is tolerable. My advice: Add 2 inches to your usual riding gear inseam, and order the slimmest waist you think you can get away with.

  2. Great idea but disappointing in execution
I love the construction and fit - 34 x 32 fit me just like the same size from Levi's. But the knee armor sits very high, and as I ride it works its way up onto the top of my thigh. Not useful there! A 34" inseam might help, but would drag on the ground. So I use clip-on stirrups (made for riders on bikes with forward controls whose pants won't stay in place). That gets the armor back to where it was- which is still not really where it should be. They are also too loose. When I crashed wearing them I did a 360º roll and the pant legs and armor rotated around my knees and both were significantly skinned up. If they would snug up the fit and lower the armor pockets (or make them adjustable) I would buy another pair. But Aerostich has sign ignored my suggestions.

  3. Worth every penny
In May of 2015 I bought a pair Pretekt Jeans with TF3 Armor. I have worn then regularly along with a Darien suit and leathers. Today they paid me back. Someone drove out in front of me and when I braked hard I lost the front end on loose stone in the road. I and my bike slid down the road and I have some bruising and a few abrasions along with a pair of tattered jeans but nothing serious. These jeans do the job and are comfortable to wear. Thanks Aerostitch.

  4. Serious Proper Jeans
These are solid, dark blue denim jeans with excellent stitching and heavy weight denim. The gusseted crotch means no sliding down when you are crouched down. Inside, the cordura layer has a very nice, smooth poly/nylon fabric covering it, so no scratchy problems. Even without the optional knee armor, these are excellent jeans.Fantastic value for Made in American jeans; i paid as much or more for a bespoke set, without armor, without the slick lining. (Then outgrew them. Ah well, they sucked anyway).

Five Stars, Highly Recommended, will buy again!

  5. Still look like riding pants
Let's get this straight - these still look like riding pants. At best, they look like Dad or Mom jeans. With the extra layers of Cordura and the pockets, these do not look like jeans you would wear out with friends or even a broken in pair of work jeans.

All that said, they are comfortable (AFTER a couple of washings - and they DO shrink a little in the wash). The extra layers are not noticeable while riding. The weight of the jeans is noticeable while walking around but not on the bike. They are cut like a pair of jeans. The sizing matched well compared to Levis. The leg length is a little long, but that's not a bad thing in the riding position. The flow air a little worse than riding in Levis but much better than an RC.

Overall good riding pants, but you won't ever confuse them for your favorite pair of jeans.

  6. Well Made With One Issue
First, these jeans are well made and offer good protection. And the sizing is true to regular jeans. I also own the Darien jacket and pants. The one issue I have is with the fit of the knee protectors. The pockets for the protectors are deeper than the actual protectors. The protectors slide to the bottom of the pocket and become shin guards and do not cover the knee. I contacted Aerostitch and was told that they did not have a solution to this. I wound up using Velcro fabric tape to close up the bottom of the pockets so the knee protectors would fit correctly. Aerostitch should have added some adjustability like they do with their Darien pants.

  7. too small
The fit is smaller than the kakis. They're simply too small. Go up at least 2 inches.

  8. Didn't work for me
I thought the overall build quality of these jeans was substantial, and I believed they would help significantly in the event of a get-off. But I had a helluva time trying to get the right fit. I think it's telling what one reviewer said about these not being made in house. The first pair I tried (32's) were so tight, I could not button the front. In fact, they were so far off that I sent them back with a pair of my own personal jeans to try to get closer to a workable size. What I got back was closer to the right waist size (now a bit loose); but the seat was SO baggy, I was really too embarrassed to wear them! I washed them a couple of times to see if they would shrink down a bit - not much. Then when I finally decided to try them for a ride, one of the zippers on the knee pad pocket would not zip up, and I decided I had had enough. Sent them back to Aerostich and said they could keep them. It was a shame 'cause I had high hopes for general riding with these. But they turned out to be the first Aerostich product that really disappointed me. If you have a big boy/big butt frame, these might work for you (barring the junk zippers on the knee pad pockets). But if you typically wear a "slim fit" style jean, I wish you luck!

  9. Protekt riding jeans
Just what I was looking for this summers riding season. Wore them a couple times, got bug remains over the front and gave them a wash. Still pretty stiff after 1 wash which is okay. What is not okay is the ridiculously small zipper for the pads that appears to twist and jam during normal washing. Used candle wax inside and out in order to be able to reinstall pads and close the zippers. Zipper is too fine for this gauge material IMHO. I recommend some enhanced instructions for washing or increasing zipper size. I expect problems over time with the zipper making pads unusable.

  10. Daily Work Wear
I have been riding in and wearing my two pair of Protekt Jeans to work as a professional trainer for over a year. These are my daily jeans for commuting to work and then wearing them all day at work. They look GREAT and I would wear them as selvedge denim jeans even without the protection built in. They look good, wear comfortably, and provide (I suspect, thankfully I've never put them to the test) much more protection than a pair of standard jeans. I use the optional armor, and am thrilled with these pants.

If Aerostich made a matching denim jacket (Canadian tuxedo) I would buy it TODAY and use it as my warm weather / casual / around town riding jacket.

Kudos to the team for another great product.
