Gear Comparison
The R-3 One Piece Suit is the third generation, modernized version of the Roadcrafter Classic One Piece Suit. The biggest difference is construction: the R-3 is an unlined, fully waterproof laminated shell with seam sealing and waterproof zippers, while the Classic uses a traditional lined design with seam sealing that is highly water-resistant but may leak in sustained rain. Because the R-3 does not have a sewn-in liner, it feels lighter, dries faster, vents heat better, and generally performs better in hot or wet conditions. The Classic, meanwhile, feels more substantial and slightly warmer, with a smoother feel over office clothes and the familiar old-school character many long-time riders still prefer.
Protection and overall purpose are very similar between the two suits — both are built for fast on/off commuting, touring, and abrasion protection using our heavy-duty textile construction and armor system. In practice, the choice usually comes down to climate and preference: riders who deal with frequent rain, long-distance touring, or wider temperature swings tend to prefer the R-3, while riders who value the traditional lined feel, slightly better cool-weather comfort, and decades-proven design often stick with the Classic.
